Lucky we live Okinawa

I'm sure you've all heard of the phrase "Lucky we live Hawaii," as it is commonly used as a hashtag on social media in Hawaii. Since I started living in Okinawa, I dare say that many sights I've seen here could give Hawaii a run for its money. Recently, I've started to use the hashtag #luckyweliveokinawa...gonna try make this a thing while I'm here.

This past weekend, I spent a day with fellow OkiJETs on the beautiful island of Zamami Island. It is just west of Okinawa mainland and a 2-hour ferry ride from Tomari Port in Naha. Day 1 of the trip was a bit overcast and gloomy causing the water to also be choppy. I think many of us experienced major seasickness including myself 🤢. However, despite the choppy boat ride, the views were so beautiful. It never ceases to amaze me at how blue the ocean is here.

The ferry stops at Aka Island for the 15 minutes before its final destination.

Saturday was spent beaching and taking photos of friends. It was the first time I actually got into the water with everyone but didn't make it very far since my feet started to cramp in my fins. It was the first time wearing my water shoes with them so they were unexpectedly tight.

So what happens when you fit 30-someodd people who haven't seen or meeting each other for the first time in the same place? Drunken hilarity ensues and snack attack occurs. I can finally honestly say that last night was the first time I've played spin-the-bottle 😂.

Needless to say, this was a very photo-friendly weekend. If we had more time on the island, I think it would've been nice to explore other parts of Zamami but there's always next time.
