I'm alive!
And I'm back...with another blog post giving you a heads up where I am in life that is two months overdue.
If you are someone that I know or follows me on Instagram, then you'll know that I am currently residing in Okinawa on JET Programme. Rather than me explain to you what that is, look it up! I'm sure the first thing that pops up will be most informative.
It's been a bit over two months and I thought I think it's time to check in to how I've been and what I've been doing. Albeit Okinawa was not my first choice (or any of the choices) for this program, I have slowly become accustomed to this OkiJet life as it is very similar to life in Hawaii. Don't get me wrong; I miss living the seasons especially, autumn, my FAVORITE season. But grateful that I don't have to worry about the blistering weather that is to come with colder climates. Northern friends, if you are reading this: STAY WARM.
Prior to coming to Okinawa, everyone at home told me that the climate is similar to that of Hawaii but much hotter due to humidity, and boy, were they not wrong. The heat is comparable to that of Vegas but much more wet. I had lived through a Tokyo summer and thought it would be similar but once I stepped out of the Naha Airport, I realized it isn't. I'd like to think I've become accustomed to the weather and the cool biz dress code my school has, has definitely helped with adjusting to the climate.
I nearly went stir crazy the first month or so because I spent more time and money settling in and organizing my tiny apartment. Most people who come into this program, have a predecessor they can go to for advice and inherit their living accommodations. I did not have the luxury of one of those since mine left before their contract ended. It's not really a story I can share publicly like this so PM me if you want to know. Let's just say, actions have consequences.
In the first three days of the being in Okinawa, I had furnished my apartment with a bed frame + mattress, dining set (although it didn't arrive until the end of the August), refrigerator, washing machine, and other small appliances. I feel like I am buying things to organize and furnish my apartment because I have to maximize the amount the space I have. IT JUST NEVER ENDS. Here are some before photos of what it looks like unfurnished...it's kind of a hot mess right now so I'll post after photos in a later post.
I get good sunlight from my room as it is on the 4th floor and I can see the ocean from where I live. I know in Japanese culture, 4th floors are supposed to bad luck but I've got my shisa in my room warding off all the evil spirits.
Just until a few weeks ago, I had an amazing view of the sunset before the sun starting to move. Cameras do not do the sunsets on this island justice. The best views are when it is cloudy so you can see cotton candy skies for miles.
That's all I've got for now! Hopefully I'll be back consistently making more in-depth posts of places I've been and foodventures! Can't forget about those. Byeeeee!
P.S. Be sure to check the images tab 😉.
